Latest Updates on Libya, 16 December 2020
The latest news from the Libyan conflict and the competition of foreign countries in the colonization of this country
1- The bill of the President of Turkey to extend the deployment of troops to Libya for another 18 months was submitted to the Parliament of Turkey.
2- The spokesman of the operations headquarters of the GNA forces in Sirte and al-Jufra announced the flight of a Syrian passenger plane to the east of Libya and the transfer of Syrian militants to Benghazi airport (under the control of General Haftar).
3- Maxim Shogali and Samir Seifan, two Russian nationals who were arrested in 2019 by the GNA on charges of trying to interrupt the upcoming Libyan election in Tripoli, will be released.
4- The United Nations announced the start of Libya’s economic talks with representatives of the country’s main financial institutions in Geneva.
Egypt, the United States and the European Union will also attend the Economic Working Group as co-chairs.
5- UN Security Council: In accordance with the ceasefire agreement in Libya, we call for the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country.
6- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo once again accused Russia of undermining “Mediterranean stability using a variety of techniques to spread disinformation, undermine national sovereignty, and sow chaos, conflict, and division within countries throughout the region.”
