Earlier today, the United States Air Force conducted a test launch of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile of the Minuteman III class from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The launch, designated Glory Trip 254, was carried out while airmen from the 625th Strategic Operations Squadron out of Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, were aboard the U.S. Navy E-6B Mercury aircraft to demonstrate the reliability and effectiveness of the ALCS system.

The missile traveled approximately 6,750 kilometers and was directed toward the Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands.

According to U.S. officials, the purpose of the test was to conduct a routine evaluation of the reliability and readiness of the country’s nuclear deterrence capabilities.

This comes as the U.S. military prepares to phase out the Minuteman III system and replace it with the next-generation LGM-35A Sentinel missiles, marking a significant step in modernizing its strategic arsenal.
