Pakistani Airstrikes on Paktika and Nangarhar Provinces in Afghanistan
Local sources and Taliban officials have reported that the Pakistani military carried out airstrikes in southeastern and eastern Afghanistan. The strikes reportedly targeted the districts of Barmal and Urgun in Paktika Province, as well as Khogyani district in Nangarhar Province.
Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, confirmed the incident, stating that a religious school in Paktika was bombed. He described the action as an attack on civilian targets and labeled it “brutal.”
Pakistani officials have not yet issued a statement. However, the strikes reportedly followed the killing of two Pakistani security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and threats by the military to retaliate. Some sources have claimed that the intended targets were positions of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
