Afghanistan: Taliban captures Maiwand

ISWNews Analysis Group: Army headquarters and checkpoints in Maiwand town in Kandahar province were captured by the Taliban.
Maiwand is located on the Kandahar-Lashkar Gah road, and the Taliban have cut off the army’s supply route between the two cities by seizing the town.
There are currently no reports of the Afghan army counterattack, but the army is expected to begin its efforts to retake Maiwand soon and open the Kandahar-Lashkar Gah road.
