Formation of a new Afghan opposition in Mashhad

ISWNews Analysis Group: Salahuddin Rabbani and Mohammad Ismail Khan, leaders of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, met to discuss developments in Afghanistan in Mashhad.

According to local sources, Salahuddin Rabbani, leader of the Jamiat-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan, and Mohammad Ismail Khan, prominent field commanders and prominent Afghan politicians, recently met in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

The sources also added that in the coming days, other Afghan political figures such as Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party, Atta Mohammad Noor, executive chairman of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, and General Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of the Islamic Movement Party, will travel to Mashhad.

Based on the information obtained and speculations, the objectives of these meetings can be categorized as follows:
1- Consensus on the idea of forming an “inclusive government” and examining ways to impose it on the Taliban.
2- Forming and establishing a political-military coalition against the Taliban.
3- Examining the proposals presented in the recent talks between Ismail Khan and the Taliban.

Recently, there has been talk of a uprising and an increase in attacks against the Taliban in social media and Afghanistan societies. On the other hand, the Taliban has intensified military operations against Ahmad Massoud’s forces and inspected residential houses in the cities to prevent any action by the opposition.
