ISWNews Analysis Group – Pakistan’s security forces arrested former Prime Minister Imran Khan on the order of the the National Accountability Bureau in Islamabad. The arrest has escalated tensions and chaos at a time of economic distress in the country.

Pakistan’s security forces arrested Imran Khan, the former prime minister of this country, while entering the Islamabad High Court on charges of corruption in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust at noon on Thursday, May 9.

It should be noted that during the arrest of Imran Khan, Pakistan’s security forces clashed with his bodyguards and some lawyers and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI), which resulted in the injury of several of people.

Following the arrest of Imran Khan, thousands of angry supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party took to the streets in various cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Mianwali and attacked the police forces. As a result of these clashes, at least five policemen were injured and more than 40 protesters were arrested.

The angry supporters of Tehreek-e-Insaf threw incendiary materials and set fire to the Pakistan Air Force base in the city of Mianwali in the Punjab province and several vehicles of the Pakistani police forces in the cities of Karachi and Lahore.

Taking into account that the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared the arrest of Imran Khan by the security forces of this country as legal in a statement, and on the other hand, public gatherings protesting the arrest of Imran Khan in various cities of Pakistan are increasing, Pakistan in the coming days will witness more chaos and unrest.
