Militants’ Drone Strike On Syria’s Latakia, Hama Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Wounded
As a result of two separate drone attacks by militants on areas in the Syrian governorates of Hama and Latakia, one civilian was killed and two others were injured.
ISWNews Analysis Group – The militant groups, who are positioned in Idlib Governorate, targeted the Syrian town of al-Qardahah located in Latakia province resorted to a drone attack, which killed one Syrian citizen and wounded another on Friday (June 23).
The town of al-Qardahah is located 10 kilometers away from the Russian air base called Hmeimim in Latakia Governorate.
In this respect, a Syrian military official told Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that following the drone attack by terrorists on a farm land near the al-Qardahah clinic, a 25-year-old civilian named Mohammad Hani Sultaneh was martyred and another civilian was wounded. The air strike also damaged another building in that area.
Hours later, the village of Deir Shamil located in Hama Governorate was also targeted in a drone attack by militants, which led to the injury of a woman and minor damages.
After the drone attacks by militants on Hama and Latakia, Russian fighter jets targeted the positions of the militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Turkistan Islamic Party in Syria, who are stationed in northern Latakia.
At the same time, when the Russian helicopters pounded the militants’ positions, the Syrian army’s artillery also targeted the hideouts of the militants in the areas such as al-Fateira, Kafr Aweid, Sfouhen, Kensafra and Benin in Idlib Governorate.
So far, there have not been released any information of the casualties of the Russian and Syrian attacks.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria is subject to a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Turkey that was signed in March 2020, that area witnessed frequent bombardment and exchange of fire between the Syrian armed forces and militant groups.
Moreover, the militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham carried out military operations in the western Aleppo and southern Idlib axes in recent months. It seems to be a blatant violation of the ceasefire, which led to the death and injury of a number of Syrian armed forces.
