On October 13, the Hamas Movement announced that 13 captives, including foreigners, were killed in recent Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian faction said in a statement that six of the captives were killed in strikes on two separate locations in the Northern district and seven more died in strikes that hit three locations in the Gaza district.

In a surprise attack on October 7, Hamas and its allies fired barrages of rockets then stormed several bases and settlements near Gaza. At least 1,300 Israelis were killed and more than 3,000 others were wounded in the attack. Hundreds of civilians and troops also went missing.

In an update on the issue, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said on October 13 that the military has so far notified the families of 120 captives being held by Hamas in Gaza.

Hamas announcement marked the second time the group reported the death of captives in Israeli strikes since the war broke out in Gaza. On October 9, the group said that a series of strikes killed four captives along with a number of Palestinian fighters who were guarding them.

Israel intensified strikes on Gaza in recent days. The IDF said on October 12 that it has so far dropped 6,000 bombs on the Strip.

At least 1,572 Palestinians have been killed, while 7,262 others were wounded by Israeli strikes since October 7, the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza said in its most recent update on October 13. At least 500 children are among the dead.

Hamas and its allies in Gaza hope that by holding Israeli captives they could secure the release of more than 5,200 Palestinains from Israeli prisons. The number reportedly includes 32 women and 160 children.
