Yemeni Army Carries Out Missile Attacks On Two US Ships; Ansar Allah To Continue Operations In Support Of Palestine
On February 19, the Yemeni Navy and Coastal Defence Forces launched separate operations targeting two US ships, Sea Champion and Navis Fortuna, with several sea-launched missiles in the Gulf of Aden.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, announced in a statement that a total of four operations were carried out by the Yemeni armed forces in the past 24 hours. In the first operation, a British ship was targeted and completely sunk. In the second operation, an American MQ-9 drone was targeted in the skies over Al Hudaydah, and in the last two operations, two US ships were targeted.
The Sea Champion vessel is a bulk carrier ship that has been operating under the Greek flag since 2005. The ship was en route from the port of Rosario in Argentina to the port of Aden in southern Yemen when it was attacked by Yemeni army missiles.
The Navis Fortuna vessel is also a bulk carrier ship that has been operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands since 2010. The ship’s origin was the port of Ennore in India, and it was heading towards the port of Ravenna in Italy.
According to reports from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and UK Maritime Security Company Ambrey Limited, these attacks took place 100 miles east of the port of Aden. Additionally, after the Ansar Allah movement’s missile attack, Sea Champion requested assistance from the US-UK naval coalition.
According to assessments of the IWN, the Ansar Allah movement’s operations against Sea Champion and Navis Fortuna are the 34th and 35th Yemeni operations against Israeli, American, British, and affiliated ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.
