Timeline for the Idlib “Demilitarization Zone” Agreement Expanded.
Islamic World News Analysis Group: On October 18, U.N. humanitarian adviser Jan Egeland stated that Russia and Turkey will give more time for the implementation of their Demilitarization Zone on Idlib.
The deadline for implementation of the Sochi agreement was October 20; however, due to the lack of full implementation of the agreement by some armed groups such as Tahrir al-Sham and Hurras-al-Din, the deadline of the implementation of this agreement expanded.
It should be noted that, according to Turkey, Turkish-backed groups such as Jabhat al-Wataniya Lil Tahrir(National Front for Liberation) have implemented the terms of the agreement within the specified time frame.
But on the other hand, the more radical groups are not willing to fully implement this agreement, and so far Turkey’s negotiations and efforts to persuade these groups have been useless.
Thus, Russia and Turkey informed the UN that the timeline for the implementation of the Idlib de-confliction agreement had been expanded.
The exact date of the new deadline has not yet been announced.
