Following the resignation of Major General Aharon Haliva, the head of the Israeli regime’s Intelligence Directorate, the regime’s army will be required to appoint a new commander for the intelligence department.

Hebrew-language media outlets mention General Shlomi Binder, General Lior Carmeli, and General Nitzan Alon as potential successors to Haliva, but it is not yet precisely determined who will take over the leadership.

Aharon Haliva, the head of the military intelligence branch of the Israeli regime’s army, submitted his resignation letter to Aviv Kohavi, the Chief of General Staff of this regime’s army, yesterday. Haliva’s resignation was coordinated with Aviv Kohavi and was approved by Yoav Gallant, the Israeli regime’s Defense Minister.

After Haliva’s resignation, the Israeli army now needs to appoint a new head of military intelligence. Hebrew-language media mention General Shlomi Binder, former commander of the Golani Brigade and head of the Israeli army’s operations department, General Lior Carmeli, one of the commanders of the Israeli regime’s cyber defense department, General Nitzan Alon, a commander in charge of the identification of Israeli captives in Gaza and efforts to release them, and General Eran Niv, commander of the Israeli regime’s cyber defense department, as the main candidates for the leadership of the intelligence agency.

In his resignation letter to the Chief of General Staff of the Israeli regime’s army, the former head of the intelligence agency wrote: The intelligence directorate under my command did not live up to the task we were entrusted with. I carry that black day with me ever since, day after day, night after night. I will carry the horrible pain of the war with me forever. When the war started, I spoke to you about resigning from my position; now, after about six months and simultaneous with the start of investigations, the time for retirement has come.

It is said that Haliva will continue in his role at the head of the Israeli army’s intelligence agency until a successor is chosen. The Israeli army, in a statement, expressed appreciation for Haliva’s 38 years of service in this institution and stated that he made significant contributions to establishing security during his tenure.
