Transfer of U.S. Fighter Jets from Japan to Near Iran

Six U.S. Air Force F-16CM fighter jets have been redeployed from Misawa Air Base in northern Japan to the Naval Support Facility on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. The transfer was supported by several KC-135R/T refueling aircraft from Kadena Air Base.
The F-16CM aircraft are primarily tasked with suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), including detecting and neutralizing hostile radar and missile systems.
Previously, the United Kingdom had opposed a U.S. plan to use the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean for military operations against Iran. However, some reports suggest that London may be indirectly aligning with Washington’s actions.
