Iraqi Foreign Minister Meets Senior US Security Officials In Washington

In a trip to the United States, the Iraqi Foreign Minister met and held discussions with the US National Security Advisor and Middle East Coordinator at the White House.

Fuad Hussein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, met with Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to the US President, during his trip to the United States. The two sides discussed the outcomes of the High Military Commission meetings between the two countries, the security situation, and security challenges in Iraq and the West Asia region.

In this meeting, the Iraqi minister appreciated the US administration for preparing the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani to Washington in mid-April and emphasized that this visit will be important, because the two sides will focus on common positions especially in the energy, economy, and counter-terrorism sectors.

Continuing his presence in the United States, the Iraqi Foreign Minister also met with Brett McGurk, the National Security Council coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa at the White House, discussing political developments in Iraq, the United States’ role in the region, Baghdad-Washington relations, and the latest regional developments and their impact on the Arab country.

The Israeli war on Gaza, security issues, terrorism, and ISIS movements in Iraq and Syria were also among the topics discussed in this meeting between Hussein and McGurk.
