Afghanistan: ISIS attacks on Jalalabad prison
ISWNews Analysis Group: At least 21 people have been killed and more than 40 injured in an ISIS attack on a government prison in the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province.
Last night, ISIS terrorists attacked the entrance of Jalalabad prison with a car bomb, and after the explosion, an unknown number of ISIS forces stormed the prison.
Clashes have been going on since last night and the sound of scattered gunfire can be heard near the prison.
According to local sources, hundreds of prisoners took the opportunity and escaped the prison; However, Afghan security forces managed to re-arrest most of them by noon today.
ISIS attack on Jalalabad prison comes as the Afghan National Security Agency announced yesterday that Assadullah Orakzai, a prominent ISIS commander, had been killed by Afghan security forces near Jalalabad.
It seems that ISIS’s intention to attack Jalalabad prison, while releasing some of the group’s forces in this prison, is also revenge for the death of Assadullah Orakzai.
