The Israeli regime’s Sa’ar 6-class corvette has been dispatched to the Red Sea to counter threats from the Yemeni army against Israeli ships.

Israeli Army Spokesman Daniel Hagari announced on Tuesday (December 12), that Sa’ar-6 will sail in the Red Sea for the first time.

According to Israeli military officials, the third fleet of the Israeli Navy is currently stationed in the Red Sea.

The naval fleet has been active in the region since the first day of the Gaza war and has attacked and neutralized several unmanned boats in the waters of the region, in addition to monitoring and countering threats from the Yemeni army as well as gatherings, fortifications, and hideouts of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

According to the Israeli Army spokesman, Sa’ar-6 corvette arrived at Eilat port this week for the first time and has joined the operational activities of the Israeli Navy in the Red Sea.

At the same time as Sa’ar-6 corvette was dispatched to the Red Sea, the US, the UK, France, and other members of the international coalition forces in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, known as Combined Task Force 153 Operations, are also strengthening their positions in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.

Sa’ar-6 corvette is the heaviest military vessel of the Israeli Army equipped with anti-ship and sea-to-sea missiles. The Israeli regime ordered a German company in May 2015 to manufacture the small warship. The German company has delivered four of these small warships to the Israeli Navy so far.

In addition to anti-ship and sea-to-sea missiles, Sa’ar-6 corvette is equipped with Iron Dome defense system and Barak-8 missile system, which provide the ability to counter various rockets, cruise missiles, and other surface targets. The operational capacity of this vessel is about 7,400 kilometers and the cost of manufacturing each corvette is about $557 million.
