ISWNews Analysis Group: The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that a helicopter of the Russian army was shot down by Azerbaijan on the territory of Armenia.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense announced that on Monday afternoon, November 10, a Russian Army Mi-24 helicopter was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile system in the border area near the town of Yeraskh.
Two Russian servicemen were killed and a third was wounded and taken to the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia.
Armenian sources claim that the Azerbaijani S-300 Zenit system in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic shot down the helicopter. However, the incident appears to have been caused by a MANPAD.
The town of Yeraskh of Rayon Ararat is bordered by the town of Hyderabad of Rayon Sedrak of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. This region is also located near the border of Armenia, Turkey and Nakhchivan and is relatively close to the borders of Iran.
An hour later, Azerbaijan accepted responsibility and apologized for what happened to the Russian May-24 helicopter and announced its readiness to pay compensation to Russia.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the incident was a tragic accident.
