White House: There is no American combat force in Iraq!
ISWNews Analysis Group: The White House announced a change in the mission of US troops in Iraq, citing the results of a visit by Brett McGurk, the US Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa to Iraq.
On Monday evening, the White House announced the end of the visit of Brett McGurk, the US Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa to Iraq. During the visit, McGurk met with President Barham Saleh, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Mohammed al-Halbousi. He also traveled to Erbil to meet with Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government President Nachirvan Barzani and other senior officials.
Brett McGurk emphasized Biden’s commitment to the results of the strategic dialogue with the Iraqi government and confirmed that no more US troops were present in Iraq on combat missions. McGurk said US coalition forces remaining in Iraq would be present at the invitation of the Iraqi government on a limited mission to advise, assist and empower Iraqi security forces to ensure that ISIS does not increase its power.
While senior Iraqi officials announced the withdrawal of US troops from the country, US military officials denied the news, saying that no withdrawal operations had taken place and that only the mission of 2,500 troops stationed in Iraq had been transformed from combat to advisory!
At the same time as Iraqi resistance groups are threatening to attack the US interests in Iraq, the movement and transfer of military equipment and supplies to US military bases in various parts of Iraq has increased.
With this deceptive act, the Americans are trying to prevent the Iraqi resistance groups attacks by changing the title of their military mission in Iraq, and to pretend their commitment to the implementation of the recent agreement with Iraq!
