The design of the Mil-24 helicopter has striking similarities with the famous Mil-17 transport helicopter, and the number of common components between the two helicopters is significant, and this has encouraged countries that own the Mil-17 transport helicopter to use the Mil-24; The Mil-24 helicopter has been used in the armies of 48 countries.

One of the capabilities of the Mil-24 is the ability to carry up to eight people, and this feature was widely used by the Soviet Air Force in the war in Afghanistan.

The body of this helicopter is reinforced with titanium to be resistant to bullets up to 12.7 mm caliber. The rotor of the helicopter is also made of titanium and is resistant to bullets up to 12.7 caliber.
