US Drone Crashes In Iraq’s Kirkuk (Video)
ISWNews Analysis Group – Iraqi media outlet have quoted the US-led coalition as saying that a military drone belonging to the United States Army crashed in southern Kirkuk, over 200 kilometers north of capital Baghdad.
On April 22, a MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone crashed in a district located in southern Kirkuk. According to the US-led coalition’s claim, the drone, which is belonged to the coalition, had a technical fault, when it was directly supporting an operation by the Iraqi security forces and fell down in southern Kirkuk.
Following the crash, the Iraqi security forces hastily cordoned off the crash site. According to the US-led coalition, the incident did not bring about any damages or death toll.
Another possibility is that the drone was targeted by surface-to-air rockets of the resistance movements in Iraq, which might be the cause of the crash incident, but the Iraqi resistance movements have not reacted to the incident so far.
It is worth mentioning that despite the fact that the Iraqi resistance movements have not yet commented on the issue, but it seems that given their previous warnings to the high-ranking officials in Baghdad and Washington as well as the increase of the traffic of the US terrorist headquarters in West Asia CENTCOM’s aircraft in different areas of Iraq, the possible attack was conducted to caution the American occupiers in order to decline the number of flights of their aircraft and take the threat seriously.
A video, which shows the US helicopters flying over the crash site of the drone in southern Kirkuk, indicates that the helicopters utilize chaff and flare systems in order to get rid of thermal and radar missiles. Given the issue, it is probable that the Americans felt danger in that region; so, they considered the existing situation and the possibility of the reiteration of the scenario of targeting of a drone, the military helicopters used chaff and flare systems.
