The presidents of Turkiye and Syria are scheduled to meet until the end of August at the Kassab border crossing on the two countries’ shared borders.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will meet at the end of August in a Syrian-Turkish border area.

The Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported that the officials of the two countries have held three rounds of meetings on the normalization of bilateral relations over the past month, and they discussed the timing and place of the first meeting of the presidents of the two countries since 2011.

According to the newspaper, Iraq was first discussed as a meeting venue between Erdogan and Assad, and now Ankara is considering a new option for the meeting, namely the Kasab checkpoint on the Syrian-Turkish border.

On July 11, Erdogan announced that he had assigned his Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to arrange a meeting with President Assad, even in a third country.
