War crime in Ganja, at least 15 people killed + Video
ISWNews Analysis Group: At least 15 people were killed and 52 others were injured when an Armenian missile targeted the city of Ganja in northern Azerbaijan.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the city of Ganja was hit by missiles fired by Armenian forces, killing at least 15 people, including children and women, and injuring 52 others.
Ganja residents said they heard three explosions in the city last night. Azerbaijani officials say Armenian forces used the Elbrus ballistic missiles to target Ganja city.
The Mingachevir area was also reportedly targeted by ballistic missiles last night.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev tweeted: “Armenia’s fascist leadership has perpetrated next war crime, fired on the cities of Gandja and Mingechevir using tactical operational missile system. They will be held accountable for this crime. Our revenge happens on the battlefield.”
The city of Ganja, the second most important city in Azerbaijan after Baku, has been targeted by Armenian artillery several times in the past 20 days, but last night’s Armenian attack, which resulted in civilian casualties in the city, is a clear example of a war crime.
Armenian media in Nagorno-Karabakh region stated that last night the town of Stepanakert, the capital of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, was targeted by Azerbaijani artillery, and in response to these attacks, Azerbaijani areas, including the city of Ganja, were targeted by Armenian retaliatory attacks. However, even if this is true, targeting the densely populated areas in this way has no justification and is considered a war crime.
