A Look At Turkish Drone Attacks On Northern Syria
ISWNews Analysis Group – In accordance with the findings of a Syria-based research group, Turkiye’s armed forces carried out numerous drone strikes on some regions in northeastern swathes of the war-torn Arab country.
The research group published the statistics of at least 130 drone attacks on different targets in northeastern Syria throughout 2022.
The number of Turkish drone attacks on Syria intensified 46 percent in comparison to the same strikes in 2021.
As a result of the drone attacks, some 87 people, including 25 civilians, were killed and 151 people, including 79 civilians, were injured. On fourth of the drone strikes targeted vehicles and more than half of the drone attacks happened in Al-Hasakah Governorate.
It is worth mentioning that the Turkish drone strikes on Syria have been intensified following a tripartite meeting among Turkiye, Russia and Iran. The greatest number of drone attacks occurred in November 2022.
Furthermore, Minister of National Defense of Türkiye Hulusi Akar ordered an operation codenamed Claw-Sword in the same month. Following the kickstart of the operation, the Turkish aircraft pounded targets in al-Malikia, Minnaq, Ayn Daqnah, Ayn al-Arab, Ayn Issa, Tell Rifaat, Maraanaz, Maraanaz and Al-Biluna in northern Syria.
