Military Knowledge: Rajum Short-Range Rocket System
From the outset of Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, introduced a new rocket system called Rajum for the battleground and used it for the first time on October 7, 2023 to target positions of the Israeli regime’s occupied territories.
On October 7, coinciding with the start of the Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, unveiled a new rocket system called Rajum and officially announced the entry of this system into the battlefield against the Israeli regime by releasing a video of launching this type of rocket.
It is said that the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades used this rocket system to provide cover fire for their operational forces and destroy Israeli army positions on October 7.
The al-Qassam Brigades have not yet provided detailed information about this rocket system, but studies show that the 114mm short-range Rajum rockets weigh between 2 and 3 kilograms and have an effective range of about 8 kilometers. This rocket system is mainly used in close ground and guerrilla battles. One of the main strategic advantages of this rocket system is its quick mobility due to its suitable weight, based on enemy targets and the needs of the resistance.
The Rajum rockets have been designed and produced by Palestinian engineers in the Gaza Strip based on the needs of the resistance and the geographical conditions of the battlefield. The Rajum rocket system consists of 5 launch tubes arranged in three rows side by side, and each system has the ability to launch 15 rockets.
This rocket system has been used several times during the Operation Al-Quds Storm against various targets, including the positions of the Israeli army in the Re’im, Karem Abu Salem, Nirim, Amitai and Kissufim areas, and its most prominent operation was the attack on the temporary military post of the Israeli regime’s army in the Karem Abu Salem area on May 5, 2023, when four Israeli military personnel were killed and 10 others were injured.
