The US Department of Treasury, following the Executive Order no. 13224, added the name of al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance and its secretary general to SDN sanction list.

According to al-Nuaba’s Centre for Relations ad Media Affairs in Iran, on March 5, the US Ministry of Treasury, following the Executive Order no. 13224, officially added the name of al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance and its secretary general, Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi to its sanction list, called SDN list.

The US Department of Treasury Website, upgrading its sanction list, added the subgroups of al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance, including aL-Nujaba TV, Ammar bin Yasir Brigade, Golan Liberation Brigade, al-Ahmad Brigade and Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba Brigade to its sanction list.

Following the decision made by the US Department of Treasury, the US Department of State, issuing a statement, pointed to imposing/executing sanctions against al-Nujaba for planning and conducting terrorist attacks.

According to the aforesaid statement, all of al-Nujaba’s property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them”.

The website of the US Department of State pointed out, “Harekat al-Nujaba has openly pledged its loyalties to Iran and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Al-Kaabi has publicly claimed that he would follow any order, if Ayatollah Khamenei declared it to be a religious duty”.

Pointing to Iran’s military-logistic supports for al-Nujaba, this website mentioned, “Al-Kaabi has close ties with IRGC-QF Commander Qassem Soleimani and Hizballah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, both SDGTs”.

It should be reminded that, in 2008, the US Department of Treasury, following the Executive Order 13438, put the name of Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi on its black/wanted list.

In addition to the above mentioned measures, nine years later, in November 2017, the Bill no. “H.R.4238”, imposing sanctions on al-Nujaba, was proposed to the US congress by the republican senator, Ted Poe.
