Libyan National Army Clashing With Armed Groups In Sabratha City
On Thursday, local sources reported that clashes continued in Sabratha city between forces loyal to the Tripoli-based government and the Liban National Army (LNA).
Earlier this week, pro-LNA sources claimed that it seized Sabratha city located 70 km west of Tripoli after a few days of intense fighting in the area. However, these reports appeared to be untrue.
So far the city has remained contested. Brigade of the Martyr Anas al-Dabashi and other armed groups loyal to the Tripoli government are clashing with the LNA.
Separately, the two sides agreed on the evacuation of the civilians by the Red Crescent from the conflict zone.
The city of Sabratha is located in the province of Zawiyah northwest Libya and has a strategic value for any side that seeks to expand its influence in the war-torn country.
If the LNA seizes Sabratha, it will be able to consolidate its gains in northwestern Libya and to push further towards Tripoli.
