Tunisian Ex-Dictator Died
ISWNews Analysis Group: Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisian ex-dictator and president passed away in a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Ben Ali reached power in November 1987 until January 2011 due to a soft coup and resigned after people’s uprising and protests and left the power to Mohamed Ghannouchi, then Prime Minister.
Ben Ali took refugees in Saudi Arabia with his family after gathered all his wealth.
A military court in Tunisia convicted him to life sentence and paying compensation among other penalties due to ordering to suppress the people’s protest and killing them but since Saudi Arabia is supporting him, the sentences did not happen.
Tunisian revolution started after a grocery seller young man Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire when his cart was confiscated by officials.
