Fifth Turkish soldier killed in Kurdistan Region

A fifth Turkish soldier has been killed in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Turkey’s defence ministry announced in a statement late on Sunday night, almost a month since Ankara began air and ground operations against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) sites in the area.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been lasting around 40 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
