Three Turkish soldiers killed in northern Iraq
ISWNews Analysis Group: A number of Turkish troops and PKK militants reportedly were killed in northern Iraq in the Avashin area.
On October 2, following clashes between the Turkish army and PKK militants in northern Iraq, PKK militants reportedly repulsed an attack by the Turkish army on the Avashin area. According to PKK, three Turkish soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in the fighting. PKK also bombed Turkish military positions in the Zap region in response to Turkish attack on Avashin area.
On the other hand, the Turkish Ministry of Defense claims that as a result of joint operation between the Turkish army and the Turkish Intelligence Service (MIT), three PKK members were killed in the Gare Mountains on October 1 and two other PKK members were killed in the same area on October 2. as a result of attacks.
Simultaneously with these clashes, Turkish army helicopters and warplanes bombed PKK targets in the Matina and Zap regions. Vegetation in the Zap region is said to have caught fire as a result of Turkish airstrikes.
Yesterday, the Turkish Interior Ministry announced the deployment of 2,500 troops to southern border to carry out military operations against PKK elements.
