Opinion: Analysis of Zalmay Khalilzad Trip to and Stances in Afghanistan
According to latest updates, after resume of US-Taliban talks and delay in announcing the results of presidential election, Zalmay Khalilzad, US representative in Afghanistan and chief negotiator with Taliban, entered Kabul and met with politicians of different parties.
Some sources said according to Khalilzad that probably US and Taliban will reach an agreement in two weeks and after that talks between Afghans will begin. He also mentioned that US endorses a clear and honest election and its result should be accepted by everyone.
Agreement with Taliban is an ace card for Trump who is about to be impeached and has election in front of himself.
Considering the situation in Afghanistan and Khalilzad’s stances, it seems Ashraf Ghani is obedient enough to form the joint government with Taliban. United government with presidency of Ghani and including Abdullah Abdullah and Taliban is what US wants.
Do these contradicting idealogies really get along with each other? A question which received negative answer in Lebanon, Iraq and other countries.
