Iran has finalized a deal with Russia for the delivery of advanced fighter jets and attack helicopters, Iran’s deputy defense minister told the semi-official Tasnim news agency on November 28.
The Yakovlev Yak-130 (NATO reporting name: Mitten) is a subsonic two-seat advanced jet trainer and light combat aircraft developed by Yakovlev Design Bureau. The main purpose of Yak-130 is to replicate the characteristics of several 4+ generation fighters as well as the fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighter. It can also perform light-attack and reconnaissance duties, carrying a combat load of 3,000 kg.
The first batch of Yakovlev Yak-130 training fighters arrived in Iran and was transferred to Shahid Abbas Babaei Air Base in Isfahan in order to improve the training and combat capabilities of the Iranian Air Force.
